The People – Jamie Beale, Scott Beale & Kelly Keefe
A family affair that has come to fruition. Grey Gelding Bistro & Bar has been a dream for many years. Jamie Beale & Kelly Keefe, sisters, grew up in Endicott , the Southern Tier of New York. Their family owned a fine Italian Restaurant. Jamie worked there for many years, doing everything from bussing tables, serving, hosting, and bartending, you name it, she did it. After College she decided to explore other business areas and travel to the Albany area where she obtained her MBA and remained and worked in the area and moved to Saratoga Springs. After years offering marketing and management skills in the building services industry, Jamie Beale met Scott Beale.
Scott’s career started in Houston, TX and Santa Barbara, CA where he obtained his degree in Marine Biology. From there, he decided to pursue working as an underwater welder in the oil exploration industry. After living his 9 lives off shore, he decided to head back to upstate New York where he continued to pursue his current career as a Consultant in the Food Processing Industry. It wasn’t until discovering the Zebra Mussel infestation in the St. Lawrence Seaway that Scott changed his career. He used his biology degree and underwater experience to come up with a non-stick solution to help eliminate the Zebra Mussels sticking to the intake pipes. A major manufacturer of non-stick coatings discovered this technology and thought it would work well in the food industry. From there Scott received several non-stick technology patents for his employer. Because Scott worked with so many food customers, his company wanted him to be more versed in food preparation thus sending him to the CIA and Johnson and Wales to expand his culinary expertise. This, in turn, led Scott to expand his knowledge and love of food. When Scott and Jamie met in 1999, they learned of each others mutual food knowledge and passion. In turn, as a Hobby Jamie being involved with Community organizations and Boards of Directors locally, they often attended non-for-profit events where they auctioned off private dinners they prepared. These small dinner parties became so popular, they decided to start a small catering company called The Social Gourmets, which has grown into a full service catering establishment and will continue through the Grey Gelding Bistro & Bar.
Jamie and Scott convinced Kelly to move to the area when the opportunity had arisen to open the Grey Gelding Bistro & Bar. Kelly Keefe has worked in the food arena since she was sixteen having tenured positions with many major food companies including Price Chopper, Grand Unions Corp, and Wegmans food markets. Her expertise in the food preparation, management and food safety will bring a critical key to the success of this restaurant. Kelly has relocated to Saratoga Springs to bring her expertise to the new family business.
